Vanessa Sloane, a girl with hidden secrets, discovers a secret diary and uses the information to try to stop the evil "Dark Man" to stop the curse that has been affecting her for years before she dies from it.

----

Vanessa Sloane's life is practically a metaphor. Cursed by a stranger in a black robe, everything someone says that is metaphorical or figurative language becomes true. One day, the man shows up again and says a metaphor that will end Vanessa's life before she turns 12. The only way to stop Vanessa from dying is to end the curse. When she tries to stop it, she realizes there is far, far, more than she thought in the story - something that could possibly end the world and that the curse goes deep down in history, its roots penetrating the "perfect" world that the government lies about. Can Vanessa manage to find out who the stranger is and stop something much, much bigger than her own concerns?
