The old spirits use us as conduits into this world. Their presence in our homes, and in some of our bloodlines, infuses our beings with a bit of their power. There are members of the Night who can sense those with ill will in their heart. Those who can prophesize the future through the burning of certain herbs and the reading of palms. Those who are so attuned to the earth and rivers that they can control them to some extent. Those with heightened senses that can smell the coming of rain from the formation of clouds in far-off regions. Rarely, the spirits even gift the Night with a child who can summon them. Who can control shadows and speak to the dead. Princess of the Night, my people call me.

They are soon forced to marry, but Amelia realizes that she is forced to hide who she really is in order to carry out a plan she never wanted to be part of in the first place. The only one she can express herself to is a strong mix of her kind, and even that friendship couldn't last for long. What happens when she grows to love someone other than her husband, whose queen she must act as? A queen who must live in semblance as a mere human? *** ❤
