Routine exoplanet surveys gone awry. Desperate bids to save a home from an encroaching ice age. Art birthed from catastrophe. The Ashwell Challenge is a collection of short stories written on shared prompts from fantasy to science fiction, contemporary to humor.

We're D & T Ashwell, a couple doing a writing challenge together in which we alternatingly propose a prompt and each have two weeks to write our own short story before reconvening to share. Story prompts can range from a thought experiment to piece of news we have read to a picture that sparked an idea. Story genres are unrestricted. The only condition: each story must be less than 25 standard typed pages.

A golfer in the aftermath of the apocalypse sets out on a quest to keep the game he loves alive. A conversation between two sides of one man's psyche reveals something in us all. A snowbound woman holds the fate of the world literally in her hands. Once all sides of the box are revealed, the homeless man discovers the promise of a new future built on memories from a past he never had. The Box Has Twelve Sides is a collection of thirteen stories all connected as visions given to a homeless man in search of his future. I will be posting each story as a chapter every few days until all are published and the book marked as complete. Please check back and pick up the next story in the overall arc.

No creature shall escape Heaven's judgement... Far into the future, the Earth is a vastly different place. Humanity shares the world with the Nephilim, a race of winged giants that invaded 40 years prior. A fragile peace exists between the two races, and caught in the middle are the Lilin, genetic clones of the Nephilim possessing an array of psychic talents and the ability to operate mecha that fuse with the souls of their pilots. The appearance of the Angels, the ancestors of all life in the universe, only increase tensions between the species, and the future is left uncertain. Suleika Kazusa, a Lilin mentally scarred by her encounter with one of the enormous beings, is called back to her mech and back to space to reveal the Angels' true motivations, and prove to them that the people of Earth are worthy of living together. But time is wearing thin, and with the Angels' judgement fast approaching, Suleika must conquer her fears- or risk all life on planet Earth being wiped out entirely.
