No Man's Land

I grabbed my glass, sliding hers to her and taking a long drink as she hesitantly reached out to take her glass. I watched her staring at the brown liquid in the glass, looking to be debating.
"It will help with the pain you're in," I decided to say, making her look up at me. There was something in the depths of her eyes, something that nearly made me shiver. Then she looked back at the glass, tilting it to her lips and downing the entire contents. I was surprised, seeing her clench her eyes shut, her lips in a firm line.
"Why did you have them brand me?" she finally asked, setting her glass back on the table before meeting my gaze.
"Marking you," I replied.
