Tris doesn't want to take part in the selection, she's happy living a boyfriend free life and sneaking into Dauntless training sessions before going home. To nothing.
Abnegation is the bottom caste, the public servants, wearing grey clothes that stay ripped and worn for months. There is nothing in Abnegation and with her brother married into Erudite, her parents enter her into the selection as a final hope.

I have read the selection series and loved them, though I can hardly remember how the process works I don't want to have to read them all again. So please correct me if something about the selection process is wrong though some things will be changed to fit in with the Divergent series more.
Some ideas-as stupid as it sounds-are from Barbie Princess charm school because it's kinda the same starting concept.

Lilian Matthews, Jeanine Matthews daughter. She was smart, very smart but she knew Erudite wasn't for her. She preferred physical rather than mental. Jeanine understood this, and she urged her daughter to transfer to Dauntless. Her daughter knew of her plans and was all for it. What happens when she gets to Dauntless and sees her childhood friend that transferred a year before her, and she has feelings for? The Transfer (A Divergent backstory to Eric)
This is a backstory for Eric. I've taken bits and pieces from the Divergent series and also the movie. I also used the book about Four that recently came out. It takes you through his journey through initiation on in to leadership. He also develops a love interest that isn't in either the books or the movie. This story will answer your questions. After her brother, Caleb chooses the enemy Beatrice picks Abnegation to stay with her family and is determined to fit in. Beatrice just wants her life to be normal but some people prevent that from happening. Beatrice will learn that life can't be perfect and she has to accept that there will always be problems. Beatrice and Tobias fight the obstacles that come their way together. There is no war just because it would make everything more complicated and I just wanted to write a fanfic with a happy ending to help me forget about the real ending of the trilogy. Enjoy!Complete
