It's 19th century America. Society is crumbling against the pressures of a civil war, and is about to break in two. Austin Lassiter, a promising young man with prestige and money, is nothing but loyal to his family and everything it stands for. Beautiful women from wealthy families line up to marry him, but for reasons he can't explain, he feels nothing for them. With the increasing pressures to inherit his father's law firm and find a suitable wife, Austin starts to wonder if any aspect of his life holds meaning. Or if it's all soirées, stature, and formalities. Far from his New England home, at the boarder of Mexico, another war rages on. A war filled with greed and the loss of innocent lives. Rafael Reyes, an equally important young man and a representative from Mexico, arrives in New England with his father to help stop the fighting and allow peace to resume between countries. Thus bringing Austin's meager existence to a screeching halt as the handsome war abolitionist comes into view.

But things can't stay the same forever and Andrew's carefully planned out walls fall around him with the arrival of his uncle's fiancee's son, Ethan. Ethan will more than disrupt Andrew's 'perfect' life. He'll also teach him the sole act of acceptance.
