James Potter is a broken record when it comes to conversation with Lily Evans. Not that she is much better. Her variants of "No!", including, "I wouldn't go out with you, if it were a choice between you and the Giant Squid!" have been persisting, much to James's dismay, for over a year.

His inflated head and ego aren't helping him, and perhaps remedying those would be a cause for her to reconsider her answer, but chances aren't promising, as she thinks him, "an arrogant toe-rag".
