The night after Makoto had almost drowned, Haru is awfully protective over him and doesn't leave his side. After giving it much thought, Makoto asks him why he is acting that way. Haru is then forced to fess up and tell his friend the truth - but it ends in a way that neither of them expected.

Vegetative state, an in-between; not dead, but not alive either. That's how Haruka lives on after he swam his final stroke at the age of eighteen. ∙♥∙ Everyone starts to give up on him slowly but surely; seeing him lie there without a real personality, body function or even the capability to notice his surroundings, makes them doubt whether letting him live is even a choice to begin with.
