Aubri Dustan agrees to take a new job as a college professor in a small town called Lechico. She only takes this opportunity to get away from her crazy ex-boyfriend, Reed Larsen, who had just gotten convicted for killing both her parents. The trial date is coming up in two weeks, and Aubri is obligated to attend, except she couldn't afford a plane ticket back to Chicago. She had to come up with the money somehow since her job as a professor didn't pay as much as she had hoped. That's when after school, when tutoring a student, she meets the world history professor, Kazuo Kudo. They become great friends throughout the weekend; now, she can fly back to her hometown to help convict her ex-boyfriend. Except Kazuo refuses to fly with her because trial rooms scare him. Two weeks go by, and they have already started to form a more than friends relationship until the dreadful day of the trial comes. When she arrives at the court, she sits there and testifies against her ex-boyfriend until mid-trial, new evidence shows up from a newfound home security camera.
