Quirky seventeen-year-old Lacey Porter hasn't known a winter in years. Ever since the death of her mother, the cold has been haunting. Because of this, she and her family spend every winter at the beach -- the past masked by the heat. Lacey's comfortable -- she's okay with avoiding winter, okay with avoiding thinking of her mother, and content with sitting around the beach condo and reading a novel...not bothering to make any friends the six years she's spent on Carbia Island. This winter is different, however: there's intriguing Sam -- pun enthusiast and cashier at the grocery store behind Lacey's family's condo. As the two build a friendship, Sam's okay with getting Lacey out of her comfort zone and into the cold.
