Ribbit and Reality
Waking up on the edge of a cliff in an unknown world wasn't part of the plan. Neither was having absolutely no memory of how I got here. But here I am-confused, probably high, and screaming into the void. With no clue what to do next, I do what any sane person would: throw a tantrum, curse at the sky, and accidentally "befriend" a weird, tiny creature that may or may not be magical. Now, lost in a strange world with only my questionable survival instincts and a feathery menace at my side, I have one goal-figure out what the hell is going on. Different- 1) Not the same as another, or each other; Unlike in nature, form or quality. I thought being different was a good thing. You know, the whole 'Im not conforming to you' deal. I thought I was unique, my own person. Apparently not everyone thinks being different is a good thing. They're afraid of my difference. Maybe it's my long white hair? Or my glowing silver eyes? Or it could just be because.... I'm not fully human. I tried to keep it a secret. Really I did. I knew the consequence of something like this getting out. So my secret stayed a secret. Pushing off the sink in irritation, I turn to leave but he grabs my bare upper arm. My blood boils in annoyance while my skin tingles with excitement. He perks a brow, obviously sensing it. "Your aura is in disarray," he states bleakly. "Yeah, no shit Sherlock." My Earthly phrase earns me a tilt of his head and I scoff. "Where have you been, Beta?" "On a mission in the Xin Galaxy." "Okay? Would it not be wise to inform your OA of any missions that require your departure? Let go." I pull against his grip and he reluctantly lets go. "Yes, however, this mission did not require your presence nor your opinion," he replies candidly. My eye twitches and wordlessly, I turn away once more but his grip on my arm returns, this time more gentle, as if pleading rather than restraining. "I only meant that this mission did not require you to accompany me as my OA in pretence. It's safer to stay with your younglings out of sight anytime the role is not needed," his voice softer. "You disappeared after you..." I pause and shake my head. I feel embarrassed to say it out loud to him. I feel embarrassed at how much it affected me. My lungs and muscles burned. Everything in my body begging me to stop but I had to keep moving. I had to get away. I rather die than go back to that lab but this building was a maze! Never ending hallways and big metal sliding doors that you see in space movies. All I could hear was the patter of my bare feet, heavy breathing, and my heart beating in my ears. "Hey!!! Stop her! Survival in space was our only option. The dying earth and its sickly inhabitants forced us to flee to the stars. My father, the commander of the elite group chosen to live amongst the stars, brought me along for the journey. And everything was going smoothly until I unexpectedly woke up on a new planet, one with an ethereal glow and an eerie resemblance to our old home as the commander of the military space force, my father tasked his men with exploring this new world. Runaway
I've been on the run for three years. I'm not the first, but I certainly won't be the last. For as long as I can remember, I had been experimented on, drugged to the brink of insanity, and tortured by someone I thought was my family. Boy, was I wrong. This isn't one of those stories where I suddenly get a huge boost of courage and defeat the bad guys then live happily ever after. I don't believe in that stuff anymore. Instead, I was a coward, and ran for my life, for my freedom, because I was too afraid to stand and fight and risk losing control like the monster they had created me to be. I've been too many people, have moved too many times. Now, I wonder if I will finally be able to find a place to call home... I won't allow myself to be captured before I even have a chance at that.
