When Twilight Sparkle becomes a princess, Princess Celestia decides that she can't take risks with her student anymore. The next time some threat happens and the main six go into battle, there is no longer a guarantee that the princess of friendship will return unharmed.
Twilight is given the opportunity to choose who she wants as her protector.
