Hidden amongst the western valleys and mountains of North Carolina is a lab specializing in genetic engineering. Thousands of experiments call its halls home, but few have ever stepped through its steel doors unscathed.
Subject 583-900U - a girl whose genetic code was spliced with avian DNA at the time of her conception - has only ever known its walls and has never once thought of venturing beyond them. This changes, however, when her older brother ropes her and five others into planning an escape.
Now free - and in possession of an object called The Key - Subject 583-900U must keep her newfound family away from death's door as they discover the reason behind their creation.
