Emishi, a wendigo, finds himself in the presence of humans, but, he is not welcome. He knows what he is, he knows his origins. He is from the forest. He was a monster, and if they found out that truth, they would kill him.
But where could he go? The vampires had taken over the forest and waged an unexpected war on his kind, and now, for all he knew, he was the last. Could he return to the forest? Or would he just be killed?
To his surprise, he finds something he never would have expected within this village of humans. Something he never could have guessed would happen in the entirety of his own lifetime.
When a human girl decides to follow him when he takes his leave, he has to do all he can, not only to bring down the vampires and return order to the forest, but also to protect her from certain death.
