Evangeline is an angel. No really, she's a LITERAL angel. Being born and raised in Heaven, eternal life seemed...empty. What Evangeline wants more than anything is to know what it's like to be human. After begging and pleading for well over a millenia, she finally convinced God to let her live among the mortals, even making a deal with Him. The deal is: she can live amongst humans for ten years and have her wings, in case she doesn't want all ten years. If she remains pure and untainted by sinful temptation, she will have her eternal life restored. However, should she fall to corruption, her immortality will only be gained when she dies after living a human life. She, of course, agrees to this since she would do anything for this chance.

So, she's stripped of her immortality and sent to Earth. Only a mere 2 months pass when she's kidnapped by the LOV! They force her into slavery for 4 months as a means to "train" her before they sell her off to the slave market. That's where Earth's sexy resident demon comes into play. Keigo Takami, otherwise known as Lord Hawkes, is a hell-born demon who was too good for Hell, quite literally. So he's spent centuries in exile on Earth building a fortune, even becoming a nobleman. As soon as he sees Evangeline, he's immediately infatuated with her so he buys her for a hefty sum.

And so begins Evangeline's true test, will she be able to resist Keigo's advances or will she fall for his devilish charm?

"This is an Angel girl named Maisie Lark. She hasn't ever stepped foot into the 'real world'. Attempting to break the lock is useless and I have the key. I've extended the olive branch. Maisie's your motive. Come find me when you're ready." Cecilia Star has been alive long enough to know what it's like to be a demon in the human realm, but she's also been alive long enough to cope with her everyday life. But when she wakes up handcuffed to a strange Angel she's never met before, she's thrown for a loop. Cecilia assumes it's all just one big, extremely cruel prank by the twins in order to rile her up and test her limits. After all, Maisie is everything that Cecilia would rather leave behind her, determined, opinionated, and so very clearly wrong. But it doesn't take Cecilia and Maisie long to realize that the handcuff prank is a little more than just a lighthearted joke. The thing about Demon metal is that it is a fickle thing. It can only be unlocked by the person who has the key and no matter what method is used, it cannot be broken. Cecilia would rather just forget the whole thing, refuse to give Ezekiel the satisfaction he so wants, and remain handcuffed to Maisie for the rest of her life. It doesn't take long to realize that it's just not possible. Maisie is everything that she shouldn't be in the human realm. Bigoted, rude, and annoyingly difficult. She can't even get close to Cecilia without making some sort of remark on how she can't stand Demons. As the time ticks down and options become less and less, maybe being handcuffed to each other will teach Cecilia and Maisie a thing or two about themselves. Maybe running from the past isn't the right choice and perhaps, maybe even a Demon and Angel could fall in love too. (Entered in the Open Novella Contest 2022 under prompt 79. Esme "Ever since birth I've been looked at with eyes of hatred, despair, fear, as well as pity... no one has ever looked at me with love, care or desire... I want someone to see me as not a lonely orphan, but a girl that needs love." Dazod "Everything always has and always will be set in stone for me. No matter what happens, I am going to rule this dimension. As given the title 'Demon Lord', and it is a huge honor... however there is a part of me that doesn't know if this is the path I truly want..." ~ Esme is a human girl, lonely since the day of her birth. She's come to learn that the only way to survive is to not trust anyone and have an indifferent personality. However... one day a man with horns appears in the dumpster outside her apartment complex, she thought he may have been a regular cosplayer just trying to get by... until she noticed his wounds and how fatal they were, he was undoubtedly swaying between life and death. Something within her had pushed aside her usual uncaring self and made her decide to help the man. Yet, she was too naive to realize how bad her situation became... Dazod is the Demon Prince (some already given the title "demon lord") has learned to not trust humans, but to kill them with no mercy, and not just humans, any species as well. However, when he travels to the human world one night he is chased and ends up wavering between life and death! Yet, he somehow survives with the help of a young human girl with golden eyes. Rules are stated that if a human finds out about you, you must kill that human. Somehow he couldn't do it, though this girl is rude to him, she doesn't believe him, so there would be no point. The day after an ordeal happens which causes Dazod to have to stay in the human dimension and having to protect Esme... even if he didn't want to at first. However, after spending time with this human he starts to think... maybe she isn't all that bad... and maybe they're similar in a way. Cover by WickedKittyGal

Kurosaki Masaki was raised to be kind and open-minded. She wasn't raised to be harmless however. Out of the necessity for the last remnants of a nearly extinct race, she's burdened with the Quincy Arts, named a prodigy even if it wasn't a born talent. Out of necessity for human survival in an endless war against demons, she takes it upon herself to become a pillar of strength in a dying, but still fighting organization. She may be born as Kurosaki, but she was always every bit of Kochō as any other member. Unsurprisingly, this passed on to her own children. For better or for worse. Kurosaki Ichigo was raised to be kind, open-minded, and observant. He wasn't raised to be unknowledgeable however. Out of sheer necessity for a war he was never a part of, he is burdened with journals filled with information, just in case. Out of necessity to impossibly end a bloody crusade, he takes to the whispered lessons and training in the dead of night like a fish to water, becoming a child soldier before even learning about Shinigami. He may be born as Kurosaki with Shiba blood, but he is even more Kochō than his own mother. Unsurprisingly, this changes things. For better or for worse. - Or, Masaki's mother came from the Kochō family, a slightly recent but no less skilled family in the Demon Slaying World, and Ichigo imitates and changes himself to be more like his mother after she died, but still every bit of a protector as he always is. Or, Ichigo acts a bit like Kanae and Shinobu, is the Flower Pillar, and is a better doctor than Ishida Ryūken at the age of 15. Everything obviously changes. As always, it's the butterfly (Kurosaki) effect. - Updates will be posted on Sundays!
