bottles clinking and the TV static filled the hollow house. a baby, no older than two can be heard whimpering, his head hurting, not just from the small growing horns, but also from the bruises and blood oozing from his small body. he lay deep in the dark and damp basement, away from light, not a single peep made it through those stone clad walls. yelling from upstairs filtered through, the sound of wings and a thunk before quiet tapping can be heard going down stairs, the slamming of a door opening as he was picked up into a safe and warm hold. the winged man shush the small one as the sound of loud clopping thudded from upstairs.

they were running out of time.
