When man becomes too powerful for his own good the results can be catastrophic. That's what happened during the rift trials. 
Scientists accidentally opened a portal between two dimensions, two parallel worlds. But their finding was soon to turn for the worst, the portal began to release a high amount of radiation of an unknown kind. A disease called Portal Radiation or PR for short. It infected many people, but strangely, only the old and very young.However, those in the middle years were unaffected.  

Ara was 19 when the virus PR hit. And, through a tragic turn of events, she and select others must travel through the portal in hopes of stopping it. 
She was one of many chosen by secret agencies for the Rift Trials.
