With their failed attempt to show concern for Tomioka- because that's what he meant by wanting to get him to smile!- with various amount of methods, they give up after their failed attempts. That's it, or at least that should be it until Himejima and Rengoku in a joint effort to achieve this suggest another idea:

Spending time with the Pillar whether he likes it or not, this could only go horribly wrong.

As it turns out, it does, from meditating to going out drinking, to breaking into his house to set up a matchmaking event none of it works. Or at least it shouldn't, it shouldn't, and it doesn't- at least to some extent- but now here she is trying to prove to the man that he deserves love too despite what might have happened in the past. She just didn't expect to end up falling in love with the man to be part of their rejuvenated efforts.
