It is the autumn of 1968 in the Cornish town where nine-year old Atley lives. Since the death of his parents several years before, he has lived with Gerry, a pensioner and his guardian.  Atley loves his town and never wants to leave but what if something happens to Gerry? He tries not to think about it and has his own plan of escape if his fate requires it.

With the hunt for Bernie giving new purpose to Geoff's un-life, he and Naomi begin a quest to get back their cat. Battling skeleton pirates, climbing the sky ladder and facing off against the villain who took Bernie, Geoff is determined to find his purpose - or die a second time trying!
