The Golden Guard saved you when you were younger, and introduced you to the Emperor's coven. You became close with him, so naturally, you'd want to protect each other from harm's way.
What happens when you're in harm's way and the person who's putting you in danger is the emperor himself: The Golden Guard's uncle. The Golden Guard's only family? Who would the Golden Guard choose to protect? You or Emperor Belos?
