In a radioactive, post-apocalyptic town such as Kruptos, anything new or different is feared. 
A new type of human has been forming-prodigies. They have radioactive poison in their genes, causing them to have supernatural and inhuman abilities.

These prodigies are recognized my the vibrant red scarves they wear around their necks, and a young lady known as Felicity bears a red scarf.

When a life-threatening illness breaks out, the government begins to use to use the blood of the prodigies as a cure.
Felicity-as a desperate attempt to escape the horrible future- she sets off into the untamed wild. 
Joined by three other Prodigies, they set off in search of a place to be safe.
