A glass bead is an extra-small diameter ball with a low density and low compressive strength. The size is about 149-88 microns. They are able to peen surfaces without damaging the metal. Under normal conditions, glass beads can be recycled thirty times. The most commonly used glass bead size is the MILPRF-9954B No. 8 glass bead. This specification was approved on September 26, 2005 by the Department of Defense.
