THE AVERAGE PERSON SUFFOCATES after three minutes with no air. Ember Potter had hands pressing a pillow to her face her whole life. She was hyperventilating, clausterphobic, and scared of commitment.

THE WATER WAS HER HAVEN, her escape, her forever. The sea, the lake, the waves, the tide, the ability to swim; swim through the expectations and break through the surface. It was her haven, that is, until she drowned in a brutal tidepool, pulling her down as low as she could possibly go. 

IN THE POOL THAT DROWNED HER, he found her. He pulled her up from the bottom like a night in armor. The swim to the surface was filled with arguments and fighting and conflict and guilt, but the fresh air at the top made everything they had lost worth it.
