Heaven and Hell have been at war since the beginning of time. Once every millennium both sides choose a child, in which they bestow powers of light from heaven and darkness from hell, when they are old enough the golden sorceress and the dark angel will fight to the death to determine to superior plane. So it's not exactly great news when you end up as both.
Sigyn Iwaldidottir was gifted the power of the golden sorceress before birth and chosen by death himself to become the dark angel when she was a mere five years old. Her entire life her soul has been tearing itself apart, throw a genocidal maniac and some family drama into that and it will not mix well.
