Kona doesn't want anything to do with her stupid, dumb, careless father. He locked her up in a stupid room since she was a baby. Maybe that was why she was insane. Her sisters were fine though, perfect and blah blah blah. She had red hair and green eyes and was a witch. Of course. She just had to be one, her, of all people? As the daughter of the king of Reom, she was pretty much seen as a evil princess in her father's eyes, even though she had never met him before except when she was a baby, and that was a really, really, long time ago. 
So it makes sense to run away with her best friend. And it is totally sane.
