With no other options, she goes back to work, using her very specific skill set for good. Nightmares and doubts plague her until she remembers why she left the Red Room in the first place.

Natasha thinks she's lost all her hope. Alone in the red room she feels like a no one, like no one needs her. That's until she meets a little girl. Natasha never knew she could care so much for such a tiny human being. Now her job is to protect her with her whole life and that also means escape the red room. ⚠️I don't own the marvel characters⚠️ Some things don't go the same as in the mcu in this story. for all of her life, natalia alianovna romanova 'natasha romanoff' has had nothing, and no one. all shes ever known is death. what started out as a simple mission for the red room pulls natasha into a life she never could've expected to have. if you're reading this in 2021- i promise my writing has improved, my newer stuff is much better. and this was written before black widow came out, and before i got into the comics, so it's not canon compliant in any way. everything is in nat's point of view.

The Red Room produces the greatest assassins in history. The Winter Soldier is brought in to train the Black Widows, and Natalia Romanova quickly comes to his attention. After both are punished for humanizing the perfect weapon, they meet again outside of Odessa as enemies. Years later, Natasha helps Steve Rogers rehabilitate his best friend and must discover what he remembers.

Katerina (karina) Kovaleva develops feelings for Natasha Romanoff the only problem is they are stuck in the red room. Natasha escapes and so does Karina but only Karina escapes 9 years later. Do these childhood 'friends' finally admit their feelings?
