Desperate to restart her life, Miami Flo begins living on a cherry grove on the Isles of Vita, a developing city seething with intergalactic activity. She spends her days reading, writing in her scorched diary, digging in the dirt, and repairing her gadgets. While she wishes for normality, it gives her anything but, from the tight-spaced trailer she resides in with her robot, to the abnormal characters she's introduced (and reintroduced) to. The cherry on top is Vinnie Portella, the DJ that works with her at a crummy thrift store. With her dazzling looks and flocks of fangirls, she is everything Miami tries to distance herself from. But none of that matters after the wormholes she discovers. Nobody has tried to stop these things. They appear, but haven't really caused any damage except to the new girl and the stability of the grove. Miami isn't willing to lose another home, setting out into the city to search for answers with Vinnie by her side. They learn about the city and each other, but can someone of that nature really intertwine into Miami's livelihood? Gossip and reminisce can only do so much for a woman. A lesson for her: books and science will only give her outlines in her plans, rather than reasons.
