Zaki Kealoha has had a difficult life, ever since his father
killed his mother before taking his own life. Zaki has never fit in, never had
a true friend. He doesn't see a need for a friend, because he simply wants to
leave this world.

Reese Callaghan is more than mad when his dad moves their
family down to Beaufort, North Carolina from upstate New York his senior year
of high school. He figures this school is going to be just like his last one,
full of people he can't stand. That is until he sees a boy with butterfly
tattoos on his neck, and pen marks on his arm.

Reese desperately tries to help Zaki, wanting him to realize there is a point in staying in this world.
