The gorgeous male whips around to face me. He opens his mouth to speak but seems at a loss for words, so he simply nods. My heart hammers in my chest. Damn it. Of all days, I had to find him today. I know what I have to say, but my heart breaks at the hopeful look in his eyes. I close my eyes.
Get a grip, Genevieve. He's arrogant. He's an asshole. He can't be mine and I can't be his.
"We cannot be together," I whisper, though I know he can hear it with his fae/angel ears.
I open my eyes when I hear the sound of my tent flap opening. There's a flash of the white of his wings and then my mate is gone.

I pulled away from him, making sure I didn't cut myself on the sharp shards of glass. "Did it go back to the way it was before?" I asked him, angry tears rolling freely down my face now.
