Humanity was forced into the walls by creatures referred to as "Titans", they enjoyed over 100 years of peace and freedom from the titans, however, on the day Wall Ophiel fell, everything suddenly changed. Humanity finally realized the truth, no, they remembered what had already been established. They weren't free anymore, they never were, they were always meant to be prey for the titans ever since they were born.
