This story is an auto-biography about me. I grew up as a military child and would like to share my story. I have just turned 13 and my dad retired from the marine corps in July of 2014. Here is my story.

Ryan McCartan was the youngest person to be given the rank of lieutenant in the US navy aged 22 years old, he'd joined the navy aged 18 and after receiving his orders aged 19 he shipped out Afghanistan for an 18 month tour, when he returned he was almost 21, he had 10 months of duty based in his hometown of Minnesota and then after those 6 months a 21 year old Ryan received orders for a 2nd tour, this time to Iraq for what was supposed to be another 18 months This time was different though, this time he didn't make it through his 18 months, 6 months into his tour he turned 22 and then another 4 months later received the rank of lieutenant Unfortunately it all went downhill from there 6 months later, just 2 months before his tour was due to end it happened, and IED detonated and shrapnel hit his spine, he was rushed back to the US for proper care and found himself in a veterans hospital in Los Angeles being treated for a degenerative spinal cord injury caused by the shrapnel which after 3 surgeries they just couldn't remove, 3 months later aged 23 Ryan received the news that he would slowly lose the ability to use his lower body and then possibly more, they were completely unsure, Ryan being the fighter he was had accepted it and was dealing with it as best he could Chloe Hosterman was 19 years old and had just finished training as a carer after having spent 3 years caring for her terminally ill father who had passed away when she was 17, she had finally gotten her first job, at the very same veterans hospital What happens when she becomes assigned to work with Ryan and feeling start developing, can she help him deal with what he's going through? can she herself deal with it? Can they keep up their spirits when times get tough?
