In the Land of Broken Dreams

Josh Parker just wants to be normal. All he wants are parents who actually care about him, people who love him, friends, a girlfriend, and an okay home life. He just wants to be like all of the other kids in his high school. But things don't ever work out that way.

Instead, his father is an abusive, unemployed alcoholic and his mother works at Wal-Mart for a living. They have next to nothing in terms of money, and he's bullied for it all the time. But when a relative dies, it gets worse because they have to move. And the cycle starts over.

Josh's only escape from his awful reality is a world that he's created in his mind, a world where he has everything he's been wishing for. A world that he knows doesn't exist, that never will, but still gets sucked into sometimes. He doesn't even realize it until he's there most of the time.

Then, with a twist of luck, he meets someone real: the school's bad girl, Bree LaRue. They're forced together for chemistry class and then begin to talk. She shows him that real life isn't that bad, that he's just spending it with the wrong people.

As he spends more time with Bree, his dream world seems to get a little lighter. But then it begins an out of control spiral into darkness. When everything he's wanted is suddenly ripped away and turned against him, what will he do? Where will he go?
