Carter was a girl who wasn't much of a talker, she stood in the crowd, but she was the one who drifted away. Connected with the wrong type of people, letting herself to get into trouble, she could feel her life flash before her eyes. Smoking her feelings away, spending her time worrying about others rather then herself.
I guess you could say that she was an anchor. An anchor in which had to be clenched by numerous people to be able to be thrown down.
