AU. Hiccup Haddock is a menial in the court of King Harild Hofferson, orphaned and shamed when his father vanished on a secret mission into Berserker territory. Doing a favour for a knight in training, he takes his place on a routine hunting party with the Princess Astrid but when they are attacked by Outcasts and the Princess is lost with only Hiccup to protect her, her escorts cover their incompetence by claiming he kidnapped her.
