A young English woman, with the help of her Uncle Josiah Trelawny, escapes her tumultuous, high-class family fleeing across the Atlantic and is thrust into an entirely different world. With a change of name, Amelia Edwards is made head of her uncle's business in the reforming America. Spending years navigating the politics of the South, her business falls on hard times. Desperate to save her empire and the well being of employees she faces hard decisions as her rivals threaten her livelihood.
Unaware of her uncle's criminal links, she learns of Arthur Morgan, the sullen associate. Unbeknownst to Amelia about his life on the run, she comes to trust the man and relies on his skills to help protect her business.
Can Amelia save the company without sacrificing her morals and will Arthur find redemption in the unexpected employer?
