I was fourteen years on the assembly line at General Motors Van Nuys assembly division. From April twelfth 1976, till 1992 I was employed with GM (and fired a few times) as an assembler, repairman, absentee relief officer, leadman and finally a committeeman for the Local United Autoworkers Union, better known as the UAW local 645.
It's a story I have never put down to paper, probably because I have much to be ashamed of as an employee. I've never been a guy that likes to be bossed around, dontcha know? I think this is a story that isn't often told. I've never seen a book about the assembly line and the daily operations of a plant t5he size of GM Van Nuys.
