A mask can only last for so long, before the real you either pokes through, or meshes with the mask in an ugly, dissonant clash of colours and smudges. 

Think of it as though you are a tattoo you got that you regret. Your mask is the tattoo you attempt to cover it with. However, if that job is not done well enough, with meticulous care in choosing the proper, intricate colour palette, and done with pristine line work, down to the mm of placement, in time, that tattoo will resurface.

Sometimes, simply covering up the old with the new isn't good enough. Now welcome to my life.
