Kaya is the oldest daughter of Ray and Maya. She doesn't act like other girls in her village and don't do great with the matchmaker. When Ninjago is threatend by a man who calls himself Overlord all men Ninjago must go to war. But Ray isn't in shape for it. So Kaya takes his place by pretending to be a boy named Kai. She meets the tiny dragon Lloyd that is sent to make her change her mind. 

In the army she also meet Jay who wants to find a girl that like his humor, and Zane that have metal prosthesis for his arm and leg who wish to find a girl that like him even if he's weird. She also meets the leader Cole that is hard and strict.
