The answer purely depends on the person themselves. On how strong they are, on what their dreams and hopes are, and on how far they will go to achieve them.

Many people believe that sirens don't exist. It may be true, it may be not. But that doesn't mean that they never existed. They may still be living, hiding away from the cruelties of the human world for their survival.
But what actually caused them to stay veiled from the rest of the world so desperately?

One stormy night, Nathanial decides to wonder around the boat; when out of nowhere he hears the most beautiful voice he has ever heard, sing an enchanting song. Nathaniel then feels like he has no choice but to find the owner of the lovely voice. What happens when a young siren meets a human man? She certainly won't drown him, he's too special. But what would the other sirens say about it? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This is my NaNoWriMo 2021 entry. It was, as the challenge goes, written in the span of one month. As such it has not been well revised and is less than ideal. It is likely not fleshed out properly, as when I wrote it I was merely sticking to a story and a timeline so that I could finish in time. Sirens in this world do not drown humans. Instead, they feed off of the adoration from humans that they lure close, and then wipe their memory.Complete

It's 104,700 words and takes place in a version of Rona in Scotland that has mythical yet plausible, plants and creatures. After losing his father, Lain's love Adaira gets pulled into the sea by sirens. Monty, A shipwrecked fisherman, tells of a melody in the water; the same one Adaira sang to Lain the night she was taken. Gavin, the lighthouse keeper who found Lain that dreadful night, knows more than he's letting on. While working the apothecary shop, Lain struggles with grief and filling his da's shoes. It doesn't help that Finlay, Lain's unrequited love, is back in town, wondering what went wrong in their friendship, or that every time he plays his violin something goes wrong. Thankfully, Monty sticks around, though Lain is uncertain as to why. With his da's journal, mythical plants, and violin, Lain and Monty endeavor to enchant his siren to come home, and not drown in the process, whether it be by sirens, kelpies, or the caoineag. Everyone in this story has lost someone or something. Grief and healing are the heart of it all. After years of writing, editing, querying and editing some more, I'll be releasing the first chapter and potentially subsequent pages up until Chapter 3.Complete

My face Softens as I take in the sight In front of me. Crouching down I see the women peeking up at me with big blue frightened eyes. Her eyes Flicker between me and the doll in my hand. I slowly reach out the doll handing it to her, she flinches back her eyes squeezing shut in fear. I look back to my brothers to see them looking just as shocked. Cass has no memories of her parents, only impossible dreams of waves and orcas and, sometimes, her mother's voice. When she and her adopted aunt return to the Pacific Northwest island--where her parents died twelve years before--Cass hopes the place will trigger long-buried memories. Instead, she discovers that the impossible is real, and that history is about to repeat itself. Unless she can stop it. ***Teaser*** The water hit with such a shock of cold that Cass thought she was going to pedal up and out of it again like some cartoon character. Instead, she flailed and splashed and smashed one arm against a piling as salt water poured into her raincoat & filled her shoes. "How do you like it?" Jason yelled. She spun until she could make out his form, black against gray sky. "What?" she sputtered. She dragged one arm from the water long enough to shove wet hair from her face. Jason became clearer: black hair dark above his yellow raincoat, arms crossed over his chest. "What the hell are you talking about?" "I asked how you like it, going for a swim in this water." She was open-mouthed with disbelief. It was a bad idea; a surge lifted her and slapped salt water into her mouth. Bile burned her throat as she coughed and all the while she was still flailing at the water, fighting the drag of shoes and clothes to keep afloat. She should kick them off-that's what you were supposed to do if you fell into the ocean with your clothes on-but she was only a dozen feet from the dock. Besides, it was her only coat. Jason watched her the way she'd watch a barracuda. "I know you're following me." "Following you?" What. The. Hell. She gave a mighty kick and tossed her coat onto the dock. Jason just stood there. "I nearly drowned last week, you know that? Now you show up as if nothing happened." "Last week," Cass said slowly, "I was in Argentina." Whatever he'd seen, it wasn't her.Complete

How does one cope when someone close to them is gone? Some will do their best to move on, while others will hold on to the hope that they'll be back on their life. Occasionally, other people will fight until the end to have them back. True love means you have to fight for them, right? But not everyone has the determination to keep on fighting. I am one of those people who got tired of fighting and ended up hoping they'll be back. I got tired of looking for her, the only thing left I could do is to write and create a play in hopes that she'll find her way back to me. Unfortunately, all I could write is filled with tragic endings since I don't have a glimpse of a happy ending. After being diagnosed with depression two years ago, it's all she can do to keep a smile on her face, keep being positive and happy. The demons of her past have kept her beneath the waves for months now, hardly allowing her to breathe. From nightmares to insomnia, she can't seem to catch a break. Her reputation as a Siren has thrust her into a spotlight for which she wasn't prepared; to say nothing of her PTSD associated with said reputation. Her parents and brother are doing their best to carry on as normal as possible, but even they have tough days. If it wasn't for Waverly, she probably wouldn't be able to get out of bed. It all comes to a head one day when she receives a letter inviting her to a special 'for Sirens only' concert. She hasn't used her voice in years, hasn't even allowed herself to even entertain the thought. The creatures went their separate ways to live in different corners of the country, having the vampires ruling it all. In this story though, vampires are going missing and it will cause creatures to fight against each other. Alliances are made, loved ones are lost and everything that each creature built is at risk. . . . "Call off this plan of yours immediately, if you choose not to, the blood and limps of you and your sirens would be floating in the ocean, we have more fighters, you're outnumbered" She scoffed and glared at me, "You land creatures believe you're so much stronger than us when you're united but not for long, Ketsuiki. Send all the fighters, witches and rulers you want, we'll kill them all just like we killed Myra. I'm only leaving you alive because you're Knight in shining armor will kill us all if you go missing.", she said in a serious and monotone voice as she walked back into the ocean, turning her back to me, while the sirens began to swim away. As she walked away, thoughts flooded my mind. I couldn't leave her unscratched, she couldn't walk away from me, The Queen of Vampires with no bruises or cuts on her. So he gives her two choices: Never speak a word of what happened and go back to whatever life she despised so much, Or Come with him to an underwater city she never thought existed. After choosing the latter in a risky gamble, both her and the boy might be in for more than they bargained for when they discover the city is under attack. Will they be able to save it and the people in it in time, or will following the boy be a big mistake?
