"Piper, I want to show you something but you have to promise not to freak out." Jace said. Obviously, he doesn't want to answer my question. That breaks my heart but I stand strong. "Ok, show me." I said Cold and with no emotion. He went to his little book shelf, tucked in the corner of his room. I didn't notice it before. The book he pulled out was think and old. It was smaller and the pages and the cover looked worn. This book has seemed to definitely been through it all. He sat next to me and turned through the book until he found the page he was looking at. And before I could really look at it he closed it with his finger tucked inside to hold his place. "Please, don't get scared or freak out. I did when I first found it but... I need you to understand. I don't want to be alone." "Jace, what is it? You're white as snow." I grabbed the book slowly away from his hand while still looking at him. He looked at his bedroom floor. I opened the page where he marked and there was writing that was extremely faded and a picture on the next page. I tried to read it but my eyes traveled towards the picture. There was 4 woman and 3 men. The men had their arms around the women, all except the lonely woman at the end. It was a pleasant picture. Full of happiness. As I looked harder I noticed something unreal. One man in the picture looked.. well, it looked just like Jace. My mouth opened in shock and I squinted my eyes trying to look more closely. But that wasn't it. The woman he was holding... That woman with black, curly, hair and gray blue eyes with freckles painting her nose and cheeks... well it was me. Under the painting it said 1840 "Dawnee- (Far left) 1821 BIRTH, 1845 DEATH" "Resseger- (far left above Dawnee) 1819 BIRTH, 1845 DEATH" I stood up, throwing the book down and ran as if the devil was after me, himself. I ran for my life. I ran away.

A broken girl... Twenty years old and I'd finally had enough. I couldn't take anymore, so I packed up my things and disappeared, leaving behind my drunken, abusive father and the mother that stood by and watched as I slowly died. I knew I was going, but not where I'd stop. The last thing I expected once on my own, was to be spending my nights stripping at a club in Florida, barely getting by. I should have known running from a past wouldn't make it stop haunting me, because misery will always find me and tear me down until there's nothing left of me. It always has... Things can always change though, right? Like looking up at a handsome, tattooed stranger, and with one stare he has me questioning everything I've ever believed in. I wasn't expecting or prepared for someone to storm into my life. Not him. Jace Montgomery. The name I'll never forget. The need to save me lies in his eyes, but I don't need a savior. Trust- what he wants to teach me. That I'm something more than what I've grown up believing and that I'm worth loving. Those are the things he wants me to believe. How am I supposed to let him in and show me I'm something when I've spent my entire life being... nothing? He won't give up, and honestly, I'm hoping he never does... Because maybe... just maybe... I am worth saving after all.
