Vienna, 21, is hopelessly in love. Max, 24, can't save her. In fact, he's killing her. Vienna met Max, her drug dealing (and construction working) boyfriend, when she was 16 and he was 19. They've been drowning together ever since. After she dropped out of college and moved in with Max, things just got worse and worse. He gave her everything she needed. Stability, love, comfort, money, promises, Xanax. Now, we meet their relationship from Vienna's point of view. She journals poetically and reflects on their past, present, and future. Her addiction to both love and drugs has progressed so far that she can barely function without Max nearby. He cheats on her, and is home so little that he leaves her in a constant deficit. Her love for writing is dwindling like everything else inside of her, but something keeps her going. Since her mother passed away, nobody is looking for her. She can drown if she wants to. She just can't decide if she does. He supplies her pill addiction, and holds her through the pain he puts her through. Though she knows deep down something might need to change. He has turned her into a confused, desperate, washed up mess. Will Vienna allow Max's love to drown her or will she pull herself out of the waves and face the question she's been avoiding this whole time: Can there be Vienna without Max?
