From the shadows of the warehouse appeared a twisted, pale figure, black fluid dripping from its mouth. Four more followed after it, but they were moving slowly. They hadn't smelled us yet.
"Holy shit." Garrett swore and fumbled at his hip for his gun, only to come up empty. Everyone had assumed they were safe within the Barriers, and they'd left their weapons with the rest of their stuff, if they had any at all.
The lead Plagued stilled, nostrils flaring and sniffing the air. With an ear-splitting screech, it lurched forward, shifting into a stumbling run as it caught the scent of humans.
Straight for me, the closest to it.

The Wildfire Virus. That's the illness the eggheads have called dubbed that has spread alarmingly fast all over the world. No could figure out at first how and where it came from or how even spread so quickly. I was on leave, visiting brother in Boston when the infection hit. Yesterday, the world was normal with its own conflicts. The next, millions get sick, hospitals are overwhelmed, and any sort of space was converted into a makeshift hospital to handle all the sick.
