Femurs are supposedly the strongest bone in the human (and cookie) body; clearly not strong enough. Maybe if the femur was stronger, just that little bit stronger, Espresso would have never met Madeleine - and Madeleine wouldn't have to spend the rest of his life haunted by him.
This fic is very loosely based off the Hospice album by The Antlers (my favourite album of all time). Read the first chapter for a more comprehensive summary, but please note the warnings in the tags and proceed with caution :)
