Dalia, Darling

"'It feels bittersweet to love you, as though time has already run it's ruinous path and everything good is over before it begins. It feels perilous to love you, like a dust storm swallowing up the sky or a comet skimming the stratosphere. But it is an honor to love you. Like the snow drifts giving way to spring, I will hold you for as long as I can.'" She read from the poetry book. "Isn't that lovely?"

I answered her with a poem of my own, "'If our love be measured in words, there'd be no word in the dictionary left unsaid. If our love be measured in time, it would be just you and me, for an eternity. And if it be measured in distance, there'd be no inch between us and no galaxy we can't reach. But Darling, our love is measured in us, and if it means spending every day for the rest of my life with you, than let no second come between us any longer, and let me be your protector.'"

"Oh Henry, that's beautiful. Where did you hear it?" Dalia asked. I have no other answer than the loving gaze within my eyes. Because how was I supposed to tell her that those words are for her, from the deepest depths of my heart, and meant more to me than any other sentence or paragraph uttered by anyone but her.
