SECOND DRAFT: Hard Bank Left
I am republishing this for a friend who wanted to read a sample of my work. The plot is all over the place, but I know I'll revisit it in future. I initially wrote this in 2017 before I knew a lot of things I know now. There's a lot in here that is culturally insensitive. I have done my best to edit out what I could find at first glance, but if you see something glaringly offensive please make a comment about it so that I can correct my errors. The most egregious example that comes to mind is using the G-word for the Romani and relying on unflattering stereotypes. I plan to correct a lot of this in proceeding drafts. Wings of fire: A Legend of Time (fan fiction)
(**Currently in the process of being edited AS OF OCT 2023 lol IDK how long this will take to rework but bear with me**) Set between books 4&5 and written only while book 4 was out, so please forgive any inaccuracies. --- Pyrrhia: a vast island divided between seven warring dragon tribes. Little do they know that the sightings of strange, tribe-less dragons that are so often dismissed as hallucinations or tricks of shadow aren't signs of insanity after all... Not far from the coasts of Pyrrhia lies the land of Grinnen: a small, rocky island with snowy mountains, sandy dunes, heat-seared cliffs, volcanoes...and dragons. No, not SandWings, SkyWings, NightWings or any other Pyrrhian tribes...these are the tribes of Grinnen. The once peaceful land is in danger. A war is in the making after a prejudiced Queen, discovering her treasury raided, promptly accuses an innocent tribe of theft and launches an attack. While fleeing for her life, a young dragoness who has been given a special mission meets an unexpected ally, and together, they set off in search of a missing dragon. The Jade Winglet is given the task to each find a scavenger and record their interactions. Moon is out looking for one when something happens. She gets turned into a scavenger! Her goal is to find a way to change back, but her friends make this almost impossible when Qibli finds her to use as his scavenger for the project. Will he eventually recognize her? Will she find her way back? And will she be able to convince Pyrrhia that scavengers are not what they originally thought? Will scavengers finally be able to live in peace? And he definitely never asked to be thrown into Queen Scarlet's gladiatorial arena as the "glowing scavenger" everyone wants to see fight-and die. But Scarlet might be the least of his worries. But survival means more than just winning battles. It means navigating a world of fire-breathing tyrants, watching the dragonets of some prophecy get imprisoned several times, fighting a kraken, and cosmic entities playing games with mortal lives. It means learning to wield powers that grow stronger with each use-powers that could save him, corrupt him, or tear reality apart. 'How am I still alive?'
