“You can’t run away from your own people. Think of how heartless you’re being.”
Blaise spun around on her heel, almost tripping from the rich fabrics that surrounded her. “You think I’m heartless?” she shouted out, “I didn’t want this life! You can’t tell me what I do and don’t want!” She felt her face grow hot from her powers, if she didn’t calm down she would set her own clothes on fire and then she’d be in big trouble.
Aiden shook his head, “No one asks for this life,” he told her. “I was born into it. And you were married into it. You have to take responsibility, Blaise.”
Blaise covered her ears to shut out the sound of his voice, “No, I won’t. Because all of this isn’t mine!” She picked up the red dress so that she could run away without worrying about tripping and falling over herself.
She felt a hand on her arm and was jerked backwards into Aiden’s chest. His breath was hot against her face.
“Blaise,” he whispered, “Don’t run away. Please stay.”
“I can’t.” she fought him and tried to pull away, but he only tightened his grip around her waist.
“Stay for me then, at least for a few more days. Then I can run away with you.”
Blaise stopped struggling, she was tempted by this thought. Of running away with the boy she liked. She finally pulled away from him and smoothed out the wrinkles in her dress, buying some time.
“Alright,” she said after a long moment of silence, “But we leave tomorrow.”
A small smile broke on Aiden’s face, “Deal.”
