I didn't mean to fall in love with my brother's best friend.
   Kingsley Pierce has been my enemy since he befriended my twin brother in first grade. Who constantly tugged my pigtails at nap time in second grade? Kingsley. Who was to blame in fifth grade when an entire bottle of glitter glue just happened to pour onto my head? Kingsley. What about ninth grade (the first go around) when a full tray of beans appeared onto my seat just as I was sitting down? You guessed it: Kingsley Freaking Pierce.
   The man in question and I have been at each other's throats since we both realized only one of us could be my brother's favorite, and I have been determined to win.
   That is, until I started fighting a bigger fight.
   Four years ago, the government announced the presence of Enhanced individuals. People across the country started gaining what can only be described as super powers.
   There are the Generics (like my brother and me) who have heightened senses, strength, flying - basic stuff really. Then, there are the Advanced. The Advanced have unique and powerful abilities - like being able to control spiders or the elements.
   My brother refuses to acknowledge his powers, instead insisting he can live a normal life. I, on the other hand, partnered with the government to rise up as Tri-City's hero when the last one disappeared only two years ago. Despite being all by myself, I've put away more Advanced supers than I want to count - never losing a fight.
   My undefeated streak comes to a screeching halt when a new super appears out of nowhere. Crimson Current. He is wreaking havoc on the city with powers I've never seen - powers I can't compete with. 
   So, why am I so twisted up about Kingsley Pierce when I have a hell of a lot more to deal with? I honestly have no idea.
   But can I just say, I am shocked.All Rights Reserved

What does spoiled milk and superpowers have in common Absolutely nothing. Of course, that's not what young Desmond Reid thought when his mother sent him on an errand one afternoon to receive some milk from a local grocery store. Upon his return home, and after having a glass, Desmond ends up having a seizure on the kitchen floor and blacks out. When he wakes up, he discovers he's been transmitted to a hospital and it's been two weeks since his little episode. Upon his return to reality, however, things change. Desmond Reid's ordinary life changes one morning when he wakes up and discovers his body levitating above his bed. Ever since then, the 17-year-old, high school senior has been getting extreme migraines and constant nosebleeds. After a trip to the doctor's office, young Desmond is told he is suffering from the changes of puberty, which, of course, Desmond finds extremely hard to believe-especially when he manages to stop an oncoming bus. It's then Desmond gets the idea that he could have superpowers, and after an intense amount of research, he learns he has the gift of telekinesis-the ability to lift or move objects with the power of one's mind. This convinces Desmond to take up the mantle of a superhero. After spending weeks training to harness abilities, not to mention going about his normal school life, and buying a costume online, Desmond thinks he's ready to hit the streets. However, his first night on the job as a superhero doesn't go as planned and as time goes by, he begins to question whether or not his powers are a gift, or a terrible curse. Things seem to go from bad to worse when men in black suits start following Desmond and his mother ends up being kidnapped by a man named Augustine, who claims to want Desmond's blood to rid the world of disease. Desmond must use his new found powers if he's to escape from Augustine's wrath and save his mother's life.

Shortlisted for the Open Novella Contest 2019 • Being a Supervillain is tough. Between managing a secret lair and making sure your mom doesn't stop loving you because you keep telling everyone she's dead, it's a really hard business to be good at? Add to that, the fact that somehow you got arrested because your cat sitter didn't take the day off and then you go around expressing your unconditional love for pancakes in a Super holding cell because technically they can't put you in a proper prison and you don't really have a choice because lawyers are expensive? And then, you realise your best friend is plotting go take over your spot as the greatest villain there ever was? Okay, maybe not the greatest, but you do come pretty close to it! To top it off, there's that one Superhero who's just so completely gorgeous, you couldn't imagine any harm coming to them? Because they're just that precious? I guess that makes me a Supervillain with minor time travel superpowers and a huge crush on a not so powerful Superhero? And all you have to do is protect yourself and everyone you love from your ex best friend/sidekick --because let's face it that's the highest level of praise for a wretched traitor here--and you also have to get out of Super Holding somehow? What could go wrong? Right?

'No, he didn't'. I was so shocked by the turn of events. Everything was going fine and then suddenly boom, everything turned upside down. I just couldn't believe this. What did he think of himself? 'Leave me alone.' I said firmly but his hold on me was so strong. I was struggling to get out of his bear hold but to no avail. 'Oh!! So, the poor lady thinks that I will leave her alone and just let her go free?' He had that evil laugh and boy, his breath stank. 'Man, you just signed your death warrant and I will do one favour on you.' No one messes with me. 'Ooooh, I am so scared that I almost peed my pants.' Again that idiotic laugh. I counted till 5 and then kicked right in his balls. I turned around and grabbed his hair from roots, jerked them so badly and then gave my hard elbow shot on his chin. Everything happened so fast for one moment he was standing and the other lying on floor wiggling. I charged at him with my cheetah speed, picked up a wooden rod and started hitting him wildly, 'You idiotic stinky breath was trying to steal my backpack. You are so dead.' 'Favour, favour, favour.' He was screaming in pain just after few seconds and was panting hard. I picked my paste from my bag and threw at him, 'Brush your teeth.' I was fuming. I turned around and saw him standing wide-eyed, 'Hi, I am Scarlett.' I smiled showing my 32 teeth. 'I am scared.' His look puzzled me. I, Mick Chadwick, regret to inform my readers that this memoir contains nothing but the truth, which in the case of Tobias MacClain, most ridiculed as Pajama Boy, is far from pleasant. If you seek to relate to a hero more than to aspire to them and have the stomach for unpleasant things such as a hero left for dead, villainous scars, bomb threats, and murderous intent, then look no further. All of these gruesome things and more await from my research, and though I do not wish them on any man or woman, I cannot bear this burden on my own much longer. In the words of Tobias MacClain himself, "Sometimes, a villainous act can cause the greatest good." I hope that all my villainous acts of sneaking, blackmailing, diary-reading, and grave-digging, among others, will be redeemed as I present this complete and truthful memoir to the world, and with any luck, open eyes to the truth of what we call "villainy". [Formerly Featured!] Coming back from a vacation, with a gun pointed at her head was definitely not what Jean Saunders expected. Especially seeing a man flying around in the air, claiming to be the city's superhero. At least he wasn't wearing that embarrassing spandex outfit. Alas, due to her capability for getting into trouble, the city's superhero eventually recognises her and not in a good way, at all. Catching a superhero's attention is never a good thing. -------------------------- Opening and closing his mouth, he made some gestures as if he was trying to speak but he couldn't find the words to convey his message.
