Born to a pair of nobles from the distant land of Latinus, Altimus was given a name meaning, "Of the Deep". This was due to the fact that, despite having human parents, Altimus seemed to hold an affinity for the sea. Indeed, his mother's handmaidens recounted that his birth entailed "a great flow of seawater from the Lady", from which he, "seemed to burst as if a dolphin from the waves."
Sadly, the ocean holds a place of contempt among his people, and so he was shunned by all; including his own family. To escape the scathing looks and taunting whispers, and perhaps to prove himself to his family, Altimus took to the battlefield. He quickly rose among the ranks, earning the epithet "Wave-Rider," as he seemed to ride the tide of war with ease.
It was with his battalion that Centurion Altimus discovered the Deep Ones, and the power they offered. Ordered to search the wreck of the Depth Wringer for undisclosed cargo that could turn the tide of a war, Altimus found a single clay jar, with a black seal showing a single serpentine eye. Upon opening the jar, he and his fellow soldiers were wracked with unimagined psychic pain. Most died from the shock (officially, 834 men and women died, while 563 were never found); but a few survived, and are recalling visions of a colossal beast, with a head like an octopus, a body like a giant, glowing yellow eyes, and two huge bat-like wings. Behind this being roiled more gargantuan creatures; a kraken larger than any in history; a man with multiple tentacles for arms and a maw of needled teeth; a shark faced woman with tentacles for legs and crab-clawed hands; and at least a dozen more creatures that defied imagination and left terror in the survivors' hearts.
In the back of their minds, they feel a demand from the unseeable lips of these aberrations; Secrets.
So secrets they seek.
