Marigold has only known the mansion on the hillside - it's been her whole life. It started when she was little, when her father was hired by a Professor Digory Kirk. She began staying with her father everyday, learning about the house and it's history. Now as an adult and her father gone, she helps take care of the mansion as well as the professor that owns it. Struck with loneliness, the girl only has the books in the library to turn too.
But what happens when the house takes 4 children in? Maybe Marigold will find her true destiny faster than she thought.

Digory Kirke II, now a retired professor living in 1941 England, agrees to house children during the World War II bombings of London. Soon after, four English siblings to be sent to the old country mansion with Digory II where they will be safe.
