Jackson considered himself a failure. Living paycheck to paycheck, underpaid job to underpaid job, living in a poor, cramped apartment. Compared to the rest of his family, he was worthless, and in his shame he couldn't bring himself to confront them or ask for help, instead living alone and isolated with nothing more than a cheap laptop to entertain him. Losing all motivation, when one day he is awoken by flames engulfing the apartment building he's in, he lacks the motivation to even get out of bed, simply giving into the fire. His death is painful, however at that point, he lacked the will to care.

What he expected was nothingness, or at least hell, though he stopped believing in religion a long time ago. What he was instead met with was a voice speaking, though seemingly not to him directly. Whatever it was saying, he couldn't tell and for the most part he didn't care, simply drifting off into what felt like would be a never-ending unconsciousness. Instead he woke up.

He was suddenly in a world that wasn't what he knew, and in a female body that definitely wasn't his. Seemingly inhabiting the body of a poor slave girl, he, now she, is sold off and treated poorly, and just one week after being reborn, she dies again.

But whether she wants to or not, she's not dead yet.
